| Fluorescent lamps are great to use because they save energy, but did you know they contain mercury? When lamps are improperly disposed of, this toxic substance can pollute our creeks and bay, and cause serious health problems in humans. Instead of tossing fluorescent lamps in the trash, take them to a household hazardous waste facility. While you’re at it, bring along mercury thermometers, used oil, leftover paint, pesticides, and other hazardous wastes you’ve been saving. For disposal information, call Santa Clara County’s Household Hazardous Waste Program at (408) 299-7300. For more information about keeping your family safe from mercury, click HERE. |
